On Saturday I had the chance to finish watching the Indiana Jones trilogy as it was intended: Last Crusade on the big screen! I love Indiana Jones, and the final film is the best for me (except that the Temple of Doom has the best introduction, the sequence in Shanghai and later the plane). There is something great about the Last Crusade: Nazis, Christian mythology, and character conflict. It is a fantastic adventure, and I've been really happy to see local parents taking their kids to the three films... Far better than sitting them down to the wannabe The Mummy. The orchestral score that we can all hum, the corny jokes, and Boys Own style made all the films worth seeing at the cinema.
After that I saw Cache (Hidden), a French movie. Fantastic film... It is typically French, the director spends more time on implicit social commentary than finishing the story. However, without wanting to spoil it, it is the only time I have ever heard a whole audience gasp in shock. Very cool, if you like that sort of thing. One where you can read what you want into what happens and how it is portrayed and there will be no final answer to prove you right or wrong.
Finally, I went to see Munich last night. Considering that I have seen a lot of good movies recently, I must say that Munich is simply the best film I have seen in the past year, without a doubt. Spielberg, despite criticism from the pro-Israel lobby, did a fantastic and fairly even-handed approach. It was a long film, but it never really drags until the end. Brutal violence in places fits well with the gritty drama on show. Because this is not a documentary, Spielberg has been free to play around with the action. You must watch this movie...
