I just got home from seeing Hostel. It was certainly interesting and had a lot to like, but I'm not a big fan of horror movies: the by-the-numbers approach bores me. Good things are: Takashi Miike cameo, good use of disturbing images without showing the actual act of violence (but not all the time)... Bad things: wrong languages (so much German when there should be Czech, Dutch and so on), and 'sayonara' was spelt wrong in hiragana at one point. Its a cringy film, right up there with Audition, and not necessarily a bad film. Worth checking out if you like those kind of flicks. Oh... and there were lots of boobs!
On the other end of the spectrum, I watched Deuce Bigalow - European Gigolo last night. I loved the first film, those kind of terrible comedies really get me laughing. Deuce arrives in Amsterdam while man-whores are being knocked off one by one. Cue another load of women with freakish problems (a woman with a cock for a nose) and Deuce's kind-hearted attempt to help them. Funny, if you like stupid comedies.
In other news, I am now officially writing too much. I have over 10,000 words on my dissertation and only 1 chapter + a conclusion to go. Not long to go now!
